Don't miss this unique opportunity to learn from Jim Croft, a master toolmaker and artist. The class will begin with making bone tools, gradually progressing into awls, bamboo lifters, and sharpening according to student preferences. The instructor will describe how he processes elk and deer bone and its use in different crafts. Demonstrations of hewing, rasping, sharpening, sawing, carving, filing and drilling will be covered. The materials fee covers a certain amount of materials and additional supplies can be purchased from the instructor.
Instructor Bio: I’ve been binding books and making my own tools for 37 years, after a trip to Europe birthed an extreme devotion to ancient skill. My specialty is making the Gothic (Gutenberg era) binding from my own gathered, grown, and wrought materials – thread, glue, flax and hemp paper, wood covers, brass or bronze clasps, textile and leather.
